United Phyles? | Las Indias

Worldwide is appearing an increasing number of transnational communities. Some of them trend, looks for or already have a shared economy around diverse commons. They are phyles, and everyday more and more persons see them as an alternative way for combating crisis, experience social innovation and living identity inclusively. Its coming the time for worldwide interconnecting and networking them.

An increasing number of transnational communities is appearing. Truly children of P2P age, they are everywhere and they share and produce almost everything: since songs to buildings, since software to cars. Some of them trend, search or develop their own economy. They create spaces of solidarity and identitarian markets from different open commons: knowledge, organization techniques, technology, language…

They are call «phyles» and they explore the new world of Economic Democracy using the P2P tools and pushing towards the logic of abundance of the distributed networks. Their networks are wider than the mere network of its members, as phyles not only focus on themselves, but usually also look for impacting the environment through cultural, economic and solidarity action. In the midst of the world crisis, phyles are a bet for not-limited-to-state-borders cohesion.

What “phyles” are?

  • Phyles are transnational communities with distinctive and diverse identities who develop or look for different forms ofEconomic Democracy for their members and their environment

Present phyles are growing and social entrepreneurs are trying to organize more of them. Everyday, more and more persons see phyles as the alternative way for combating crisis, experience social innovation and live identity inclusively.

With this big picture in mind, Michel Bauwens, President of the “P2P Foundation” invited «las Indias» to cowork with them in order to coordinate a Organization of the United Phyles, the first world network of phyles. Its main objectives will be to connect present phyles, to create a worldwide common solidarity network and to help new initiatives.

Probably, phyles are not still too rich nor still too many. They are not still too visible as subjects of the new times. It will be the first time many phyles will unveil in front of the world. Really it could be the most important initiative of the P2P world in the present decade.

Organizations are transnational if..

  • They don’t have national ends
  • Membership is not limited to national identity or passport
  • Their action it is not limited to national or state borders
  • Their internal organization and representation is not divided en national or state groups.

We want to invite our English speaking readers to discuss on phyles in this post. We have found really interesting phyles and proto-phyles working in many languages (Spanish, Chinese, Italian, Esperanto…). Are English speaking phyles to come? Do you know groups evolving to phyle-forms now?
