Global Square initiative (global-square.net) has been preparing a
space in and around the World Social Forum in Tunis in order to
exchange, share and reflect on our recent experiences in horizontal grass roots uprisings / movements, among ourselves as well as with others coming from other countries, regions and realities.
The program of all the activities that will be organised within
official Forum can be found here:
There will also be other events and spaces self–organised outside the Forum by those of us who will be travelling to and residing in Tunis.
Any one can also join these activities as individuals or assemblies
via online social media
One of the activities that are being planning is a workshop on
Networked Solidarity. In the Networked Solidarity workshop
(http://www.fsm2013.org/en/node/7069) we would like to focus on an exchange among the people who involved in, or closely observed, the following or similar experiences:
(Critical) solidarity with labour strikes/mobilisations
International student strikes
Hospital Occupations (Greece, Spain…)
Factory occupations (Vio.me…)
Occupation of public libraries and cultural centre (in London, Spain,
School occupations (Sussex and others from Spain, US, Canada, Greece)
General strikes (in Egypt, Tunis, Spain, UK, …)
Oakland General Strike, West Coast Shut Down
#MayDay General Strike
#14N European Strike
#Walmart Strike and walk out actions in US (also China)
#For a European Spring
Further discussion and visioning on future strategies will be taking
place during 3 other events organised by VIA22 (and others): ‘How can we collaborate beyond the WSF’ (http://www.fsm2013.org/en/node/2346). These events aim to reflect on the future of the collaboration between horizontal grass roots initiatives, social movements and less horizontal or vertically build actors. These following events are prepared through the work group ‘Let’s look beyond the WSF’, on the Global Square website (http://www.global-square.net/groups/lets-look-beyond-the-wsf-2013-together-creative-open-space/).
Please join in these efforts that are organised openly, or suggest
people who would be interested in joining us in Tunis or get connected us online in order to share your (or their) experiences on these happenings that were initiated and organised directly by people and have created wider horizons for transnational collaboration for a real change.
